MyHive Won the UQ Ventures ILAB Pitch Night! 🎉
We’re beyond thrilled to share that MyHive took out the Judges’ Choice Award at the UQ Ventures ILAB Pitch Night!
Pitching alongside some of the most passionate and innovative student founders in Queensland was an experience we’ll never forget. The energy in the room, the quality of the ideas, and the support from the community made the night truly electric.
When we first joined the ILAB Accelerator, we had a vision: to help older Australians stay connected, supported, and independent in their own homes for longer. Through countless late nights, brainstorming sessions, user interviews, prototypes, and pivots, that vision evolved into The Hive, a smart speaker and companion app designed to spark connections and monitor well-being using audio intelligently.
Winning this award is a huge moment for us. Not just because it validates the idea but because it shines a light on a problem too many families face: how to care for ageing loved ones without them losing connection or independence.
A huge thank you to the entire UQ Ventures team, the judges, our mentors, and of course, the other founders — your belief, feedback, and encouragement have meant the world.
We also want to thank our early users and supporters, especially the residents of Ruby Gardens, who were the first to try The Hive. Your feedback helped shape what we built — and this win is just as much yours as ours.
This is just the beginning. We’re building something meaningful, and we’re just getting started.
Let’s keep going. 🐝

Keeping Loved Ones Close and Connected
MyHive is a community-powered support and communication app that leverages the power of trust and the human spirit to support older Australians.
Created from a deeply personal desire to ensure the safety and connection of your loved ones, MyHive’s mission is to harness genuine human connection to enhance the capacity for autonomy and independence with dignity.
MyHive was founded on the belief that, despite an increasingly disconnected world, people still value helping one another and building strong communities to foster love and connection.
MyHive is more than just an app; it’s a platform designed to keep your friends and loved ones safe, supported, and connected.
How the Hive works
Our connected speaker and companion app
The Hive — A smart speaker designed not just for convenience but to bring love, care, and community back into the life of someone you care about.
Instead of waiting all week for a 30-second well-being check-in, the person you’re supporting now wakes up to a message from someone different every day: family, friends, neighbours, or their church community – delivered in the format most older Australians feel comfortable with: audio.
Over time, The Hive learns from each user, intelligently sparking connections based on shared hobbies, past experiences, and meaningful moments. Because sometimes, one tiny spark is all it takes to turn loneliness into connection.
And here’s the clever part: when they reply, The Hive uses AI to analyse their speech, picking up subtle changes in mood or cognitive function. If something seems off, it gently increases support — nudging loved ones to check in before things spiral. That means more peace of mind for families and timely support when needed most — without guilt, embarrassment, or needing to ask.
Paired with our companion app, family members and supporters can stay connected anytime, from anywhere.

Paul has been a website developer and business owner for over 35 years. Starting out as a photographer, Paul moved into website design and hosting in 2001 before Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and many other major internet inventions.
Over the years, Paul has seen a lot of change but remains consistent in learning and evolving with new and exciting technologies.
However, one thing that remains constant is his love for his family and the desire to keep them safe. MyHive is an extension of that desire, and he hopes to build MyHive into a solution that will help every family connect with their community.
